Although OJ Simpson walked away a free man 17 years ago after his trial found him not guilty, a member from his defense team is rebutting claims that the lead defense attorney tampered with evidence.

Christopher Darden, a former LA Deputy District Attorney accused Johnnie Cochran of “manipulating” one of the gloves that prosecution accused OJ of being linked to.

He said in a panel discussion at Pace Law School in NYC:

“I think Johnnie tore the lining. There were some additional tears in the lining so that O.J.’s fingers couldn’t go all the way up into the glove.”

He then said in a follow-up interview that the structure of the glove looked different:

“A bailiff told me the defense had it during the lunch hour.”

This was the same glove that OJ struggled to fit onto his hands during the trial, which was said to be one of the most defining moments.

Attorney Shawn Holley told the LA Times in a statement yesterday:

“As members of the defense team, Carl Douglas and I were present in court on the day that Chris Darden asked O.J. Simpson to try on the glove … Mr. Darden’s self-serving assertion that Johnnie Cochran tampered with the glove — or any piece of evidence — is false, malicious and slanderous … Almost 20 years later, it seems Mr. Darden is still trying to exculpate himself from one of the biggest blunders in the history of jurisprudence.”
