Eleven years ago today, the nation suffered from one of the most infamous terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, when two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and one crash landed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The attacks resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans.

Later on today, the President will attend a memorial ceremony at the Pentagon and then visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.
