Yesterday, French magazine, Closer, published a number of photos of Kate Middleton sunbathing topless while staying at the French chateau of the Queen’s nephew but it looks like the mag may have felt some guilt.

The mag has removed all of the revealing photos from their website.

A statement from Closer reads:

“Following comments received after the publication of photos of Kate and William in Closer magazine France, we would like to make the following clarifications: This is the French edition of Closer and not the English edition. The photos we chose are by no means degrading. They show a young couple on vacation, beautiful, in love, living a normal life. The article reports that the couple recently vacationed in the south of France,”

While the mag makes light of their deed Kate and her hubby are reportedly both upset. A source tells Us Weekly they are “furious,” and are taking legal action against the publication.

It appears the couple will have to gear up for a series of lawyer butt kicking because an Italian magazine, Chi, says they are set to release a 26 page spread of Kate and Prince William’s south of France vacay. Chi also happens to be under the same publshing house as the French magazine Closer, Mondadori. Editor In Chief of the mag, Alfonso Signorini says he doesn’t fear legal action and tells AP:

“I don’t see anything morbid or damaging in them,” he said. “Chi pays attention to respecting people’s dignity. I don’t think they hurt Kate’s image.”

It looks like the spotlight on the royals is getting too close for comfort. Is legal action the right way to go?
