Mitt Romney has been touting a win at the first presidential debate in Denver, where he unleashed newfound aggression and passion – combined with false accusations – last week.

Seventy-two percent of Americans believe that he trumped President Obama, who conveyed a more substantative argument, but displayed a relatively laid back and subdued demeanor.

However, a new Pew Research Center poll shows that Romney’s performance has resulted in him gaining major weight in the polls. He currently leads the President 49 percent to 45 percent among likely voters, which is an eight point jump from last month, when he trailed the President by 4 points.

Among registered voters, the poll shows Romney and Obama are tied both with 46 percent, while last month Obama had a 9 percent lead.

This has been a very tightly contested campaign and Obama knows he has his work cut out for him in order to win the presidency. We’re just hoping round two of the presidential debates is nothing like round one!
