There have been some wild and wacky hair trends in my day!
From braids and the Gumby to the dreaded shag, I’ve seen a lot, and today I’m going to break down some of the wildest and wackiest hair trends of all time.
I remember the first time I saw something crazy, I thought to myself, “Wow, you’re rockin’ a Gumby?” But that still didn’t take the cake … shags were the worst!
So allow me to break ’em down.
The Shag: A shag is where it’s low pretty much all around your whole head ‘til you get to the back, where your hairline is, and then it’s just a big fuzzy patch of hair. This was popular in the ’80s, but Kanye West remixed it during his 808s and Heartbreaks era. I didn’t understand why guys even wore that.
I thought, why do guys want a shag? It looks crazy. I used to have to cut it on a regular basis and I couldn’t believe it. It was just so funny.
The Gumby: The Gumby was laughable, but if you’re an entertainer, you can wear whatever ‘cause people see you on TV as being different. But if you’re a regular person, don’t do what entertainers do. Don’t wear a Gumby like you saw Bobby Brown do back in the day!
He had a Gumby with an S-curl and it worked for him at the time. But when you’re a regular person, it’s not cool walking around like a clay-mation children’s character.
While there have been a lot of outrageous hairstyles, these have been the worst hair trends of all time. Let me know what you think should make the list as well.
