On the eve of the presidential election, both the President and Mitt Romney took time to talk sports and politics on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

STORY: This Is It! Election Day Is Here!

The interviews aired during the halftime of Monday night’s Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints game. ESPN’s Chris Berman asked President Obama, an enthusiastic Chicago sports fan, to compare the political arena with the sports world.

“It’s interesting. Political reporters are a lot like sports reporters,” Obama said. “… You lose a game, and you’re a bum. You win a game, you’re a god. And, the truth is, just like in sports, in politics, we’re all human. We make mistakes. Sometimes we perform well. But the key is just to stay focused on what it is that you’re doing. And in sports, it’s about winning championships. Interesting — in politics, it’s not winning elections. It’s making sure that you’re delivering for the folks who sent you.”

Obama also showed confidence when asked whether his home team, the Chicago Bears, have what it takes to win the Super Bowl this year.

“Best defense in the league right now. You saw (Sunday’s) game. (Charles) Tillman may be defensive player of the year the way he’s playing.”

Mitt Romney took credit that the Patriots’ two Super Bowl wins and the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series title were won during his tenure as Governor in Massachusetts.

“And I take personal full responsibility for their two Super Bowl wins, as well as the Red Sox winning the World Series. Hey, look, as a governor, you get blamed for everything that goes wrong. You might as well get the credit for what goes right.”

He also expressed concern over the use of enhancement drugs in professional sport leagues and he reminded viewers of his involvement during the Salt Lake City Olympic Games.
