Lady Gaga’s sheer talent often gets shaded by her eccentric antics that sometimes involve meat dresses, egg deliveries to award shows and head tattoos, but the truth is, she is a trained musician who is doing her part to preserve the musical legacy of the late Michael Jackson.

Despite outspoken opposition from Michael Jackson fans, costume designer Michael Bush put all of the costumes that he made for Michael throughout his career up for public auction. Fans were disheartened with the designer’s decision to go against MJ’s wish to have his costumes displayed in a museum, but Lady Gaga and her checkbook swooped into the auction yesterday with paddle number 462 in hand and saved the day.

Gaga purchased over 55 pieces from the collection, including the infamous glittery glove. Auctioneer Darren Julien said the jacket Jackson wore during his “Bad” tour fetched $240,000, while two of Jackson’s crystal-encrusted gloves (one of which is in Gaga’s possession) sold for more than $100,000 each, as did other jackets and performance costumes.

The “Born This Way” songstress later tweeted about her purchases, saying the following:

The proceeds from the auction totaled more than $5 million. Some proceeds benefitted Guide Dogs of America, while others go to the Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas.

Lady Gaga, we salute you for taking a major part in the preservation of MJ’s legacy. Jackson fans can rest easy knowing that the collection is in Gaga’s little monster paws.
