Days after her death, officials are now reporting that Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse duped by two Australian radio hosts, was found hanging in her staff housing near the hospital where she worked.

DETAILSHeartbroken! Australian Radio Prank Hosts Speak Out

A post-mortem examination performed yesterday will establish the cause of death, but results will not be officially released until a hearing at Westminster Coroner’s Court on Thursday.

It was, however, revealed that Saldanha, 46, left a suicide note behind for her family that might give insight into what prompted her to take her life. The family has not released any specifics about the letter, but they have said that they had no knowledge about the prank call that could have caused her death:

Family spokesman, Labour MP Keith Vaz, said:

“They [the family] were in the dark about the hoax call. They hadn’t watched the news or seen anything about it. They didn’t know they were involved until after Jacintha’s death.”

Vaz also said that the family demanded that an investigation of the hospital be held:

Although bosses at the hospital in Marylebone have said they will conduct internal inquiries, the nurse’s family – husband Ben Barboza, 49, and children Junal, 17, and Lisha, 14 – ‘want to know everything.’

Mr Vaz, who has met hospital chairman Lord Glenarthur to demand a full inquiry, said: ‘What the chairman of the hospital said to me was that there are inquiries going on in the hospital.

‘That is not sufficient for the family. There are unexplained circumstances. The family want to know everything. All the facts, fully and clearly.’

Mr Vaz added: ‘The hospital needs to be more pro-active, a full inquiry is needed and the family need to be included in that.

Arrangements are being made to send Saldanha back to her native India for the funeral.

We wonder, with the family suggesting an investigation of the hospital, did Saldanha’s letter allude that it might have been related to them?
