In the wake of last week’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, no one has yet to claim the bodies of Nancy Lanza or her killer son, Adam Lanza.
However, details about the family are still trickling in from neighbors, classmates of Lanza, and even family members. All of which will help police and authorities piece together what happened on that fateful Friday.
According to ABC, gun enthusiast Nancy Lanza had recently taken her son, who reportedly has Asperger’s, to the gun range:
A Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesperson told ABC News investigators have determined Lanza did visit a gun range, but they have not determined whether he shot there.
Investigators have also learned his mother, Nancy Lanza, visited a gun range on multiple occasions, but they have not determined whether her son was with her during those visits, the spokesperson said.
ATF agents have been canvassing area gun ranges and gun dealers to learn whether Adam Lanza had been a customer or a visitor.
Details about how Nancy Lanza lived her life have been released, including her obsession with doomsday preparation and her collection of guns to “protect” herself, which she in turn taught her son. However, new reports allude that Nancy was so concerned about her son’s mental health that she had recently quit working to devote her full time to him:
But not long before the shooting at Sandy Hook Nancy Lanza expressed concerns that her troubled young son was spiraling out of control.
An anonymous friend said Nancy had confided he was ‘getting worse’ over craft beers just days before the shooting.
‘I don’t know. I’m worried I’m losing him,’ the friend quoted her.
The friend added that Nancy believed her son was hurting himself.
‘Nancy told me he was burning himself with a lighter. In the ankles or arms or something,’ he recalled of a conversation they had roughly one year ago. ‘It was like he was trying to feel something.’
While Ryan Lanza has been mum about his brother’s mental state since the events on Friday, his father, Peter Lanza, recently released a statement to the pubic, however, Peter and his new wife have since fled the Stamford, Connecticut home they share. According to the Daily Mail:
Neighbours of Peter Lanza and Shelley Cudiner told MailOnline that the pair packed up their car and left their affluent home in the Stamford suburb of Westover, Connecticut, shortly after being informed of Adam’s involvement in the massacre on Friday afternoon.
With the investigation still active, specifics about the family are developing, but authorities are hoping that a better family picture will help them figure out a motive.
