In a Barbara Walters interview slated to premiere tonight, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama dish out all the secrets to keeping a marriage going, even with demanding schedules and running an entire country.

“We’ve been married now 20 years, and like every marriage, I think, you have your ups and you have your downs,” the President said. “But if you’ve worked through the tough times, the respect and love that you feel deepens.”

And just how do they do that?

“And then there’s a lot of laughter,” Michelle Obama added.

The President said that everyone thinks his wife is the funny one, but, he said, “I’m funnier than people think.”

“I am,” he insisted.

Between humor, love and respect, the first couple says that they have weathered the storms, and that’s evident not only in real life but in pictures.

When Walters asked about the famous photo (see above) of the two hugging on the campaign trial in Iowa (well, it was the most tweeted photo…ever), Michelle had a response to the love even we felt through the picture:

“I hadn’t seen him in a while,” Michelle Obama explained. “You know, when you’re campaigning, they have, we’re two ships passing in the night, and the first time I saw him was when I walked on stage to greet him. And that’s my honey giving me a hug.”

What’s even sweeter was the President’s response.

“I like giving you hugs,” he added.

And cue the tears. This is better than any romantic comedy. Ever.
