So much for a vacation! President Barack Obama is cutting his traditional Christmas holiday in Honolulu, Hawaii short due to the impending fiscal cliff.

Obama, who leaves for Washington today, will meet with lawmakers to plan how to prevent the economy from falling over the fiscal cliff, otherwise known as the automatic budget cuts and tax increases that are set to begin in January.
Michelle Obama and the couple’s two daughters will remain in Hawaii. Usually the First Couple extends their vacation into the New Year.
Congress was expected to return to Washington on Thursday. Before he departed for Hawaii, Obama told reporters he expected to be back in the capital the following week.
Automatic budget cuts and tax increases are set to begin in January, which many economists say could send the country back into recession.
