Violence is not the answer but some teachers in Utah apparently don’t think so.

In the wake of the shooting that took place in Newtown, Connecticut, hundreds of Utah teachers took a six hour training by Gun-rights advocates, recieving lessons on handling concealed weapons on Thursday.

The latest effort to arm teachers to confront school assailants was put together by the Utah Shooting Sports Council, which hosted the training session to help educators become eligible for concealed firearm permits.

Fox News reports:

More than 200 teachers flocked to the training class in the Salt Lake City suburb of West Valley City. Raye Ann Blauer, a kindergarten teacher, told FOX 13 she is considering using her permit to carry a firearm at school.

“[A]fter everything that happened in Connecticut, I want to be aware of how I can help in the classroom and protect my kids and whatnot. Be aware,” Blauer said. “I think it’s really smart. Especially with everything that’s happened lately.”

Utah isn’t the only state swaying in the direction of arming teachers. According to reports in Ohio, a firearms group said it was launching a test program in tactical firearms training for 24 teachers and in Arizona the attorney general is proposing a change to state law to allow an educator in each school to carry a gun.

While these folks seem to be pro arming teachers others think it is definitely not a good idea, being there is a concern on where the guns will be held, the chance of students getting their hands on the guns and accidentally or purposely shooting other students.

Carol Lear, a chief lawyer for the Utah Office of Education says, “It’s a horrible, terrible, no-good, rotten idea.”

Arming teachers sounds like a very risky plan, but we hope this country comes to a solution to end gun violence very soon.

What’s your verdict?
