Adele had the highest selling album of 2011. That makes sense, considering that her sophomore project, 21, was released in 2011 and the project essentially ran the year.

But Adele having the highest selling of 2012? That idea seemed unbelievable, and yet it happened.

LIST: 7 Rappers Who Are Dying To Roll In The Deep With Adele

Adele’s 21 was the highest selling album for the second year in a row, moving 4.41 million units. This is the first time an artist has had the number one selling album two years in a row. Nielsen Soundscan started tracking music sales in 1991.

What makes the feat even more amazing is that she hasn’t released a new single from the album in 2012.

Wow!

Rounding out the top five is Taylor Swift, who’s Red album moved 3.11 million units, One

Direction’s Up All Night, which scanned 1.62 million units, Mumford & Sons’ Babel (1.46 million) and One Direction, again, with their second LP, Take Me Home (1.34 million).
