It seems like a plot in a movie, but Urooj Khan’s death by poison after he won the lottery is absolutely reality.

What’s even more suspicious is the news that his wife tried to collect his $1 million jackpot just one day after his death.

The Daily Mail reports that Shabana Ansari attempted to cash the winnings, which amounted to $425,000 after taxes, shortly after Khan died of what was initially ruled heart disease.

New reports say the medical examiner found cyanide in his system after the family urged for another examination. The family said that Khan passed away just hours after eating his wife’s traditional Indian Kofta curry.

Details in the reports didn’t say why the family requested another examination, but ImTiaz Khan, Khan’s brother, has alleged that Ansari and Khan were never actually married, which would mean she is not entitled to the prize at all.

Those allegations aren’t the only drama the family is going through at the moment.

Urooj’s sister Meraj Khan has launched a legal bid to take guardianship of his daughter Jasmeen from his first marriage.

Meraj wants custody of the 17-year-old even though she appears to have lived with step-mother Shabana at her home in Chicago for most of her life.

Miss Ansari’s lawyer told MailOnline that his client had been questioned for four hours by police and had ‘nothing to hide.’

I guess it’s true that money is the root of all evil. Hopefully they can get this all worked out so Khan can rest in peace.
