Emma Stone may have been Vogue’s best dressed girl, but she is taking it all off to bare a fresh face and black bra on the cover of W Magazine.

She embodies all the grit, grace, and glamour of classic Hollywood in this cover look, perhaps rubbing off from the role in her recent movie. The Gangster Squad leading lady has come a long way from her days as the goofy, funny sidekick.

Today, you can catch her starring opposite Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, and Ryan Gosling as Grace Faraday, a beautiful, mysterious redhead who comes to Hollywood to make it big. While in LA, she gets involved with the notorious drug kingpin, Mickey Cohen, played by Sean Penn. He thinks she is his type, but is unaware that she has found hers in Jerry Wooters, a cop, played by Ryan Gosling, with whom she has an affair.

It’s a classic battle between justice and power.

When asked about getting serious for her role, Stone said,

“In real life, sometimes it’s uncomfortable for me not to go for the joke. I’ve been looking at that in myself lately. Often, joking for me is a way of diffusing the awkwardness of a situation, so it’s kind of exhilarating to be a part of projects where there’s nothing funny or lighthearted.”

About her circa 1964 wardrobe, she said that it was extremely uncomfortable putting on corsets and bustiers everyday, however, it did help her get into character. A character that she executes beautifully, unless you’re asking her stage crew. Stone explains, “a lot of people thought it was something else: When I came offstage, they were saying, ‘You were so drunk!’ And I wasn’t. Not until after…” Still holding on to her comedic roots, Stone jokes about throwing back a few after work.

Our kind of girl.
