The Boy Scouts of America has been standing for over 103 years with an anti-gay membership policy. Now, after much pressure from members and outside groups, the organization is considering dropping this ban.

“The BSA is discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation,” spokesman Deron Smith said in an email to Reuters.

“The policy change under discussion would allow the religious, civic or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address this issue,” the spokesman said.

This is great news to organizations such as “Scouts for Equality” that have actively formed to fight for this tremendous change in policy.

Although the new policy would not guarantee gays a right to membership, giving authority to local councils to decide their own rules, it is a progressive step toward turning over a new leaf.

Think the organization can give us their scout’s honor that they won’t go back on the change if it goes through?
