Forgot your best friend’s birthday? Send a Facebook gift card.

But be prepared to cough up your personal information.

Facebook launched its gifts feature in September of last year and is planning to upgrade it with plastic Facebook gift cards in the United States.

Do We Really Need A Facebook App To Date & Hook-Up?

Yes, Facebook just got real. Facebook is requesting users’ mailing addresses so when the time arrives, Facebook friends can give and receive Facebook gift cards that can be used at Target, Jamba Juice, Sephora, and The Olive Garden.

Here’s how it works: Senders purchase the card and determine what store the recipient can use the gift card in. The recipient is then notified of the Facebook gift card and instructed to await for its arrival in the mail. Once received, the card can be physically used in the store assigned by the sender. Don’t know how much is left on your Facebook gift card? No worries. You can use your Facebook app to monitor the balance of your Facebook gift card.

The useful, refillable card cannot be used to make mobile payments just yet, but Facebook’s new product proves Facebook is more than just a social networking site.

It may pose a security issue for some due to the address request, but for those who would rather a free Target shopping spree, JACKPOT!
