3-year-old Tmorej Smith from Greenville, South Carolina was fatally killed on Friday night while playing with a pink handgun that he thought was a toy.

Smith and his 7-year-old sister were playing with the gun in a bedroom of their home. Both parents were out of town, but their grandparents were reportedly in the nearby living room.

While playing with the weapon, a shot was fired, fatally wounding Tmorej in the head.

Although investigations are still under way, police are ruling this an accident.

The main concern here is for adults to keep their weapons safely away from the grasp of young kids.

“If you have guns, if you own guns mostly we would prefer you have them in a lock box,” said police spokesperson Johnathan Bragg. “At least have them out of the reach of children.”

Our love goes out to young Tmorej and his family.
