President Barack Obama is sure to face a tough crowd during tomorrow’s “State of the Union” address, but he’ll have a crew to back him up.

House Democrats are planning on bringing victims of gun violence as their guests to the address, as part of the push for new gun safety legislation in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. massacre.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) confirmed the announcement. He too will be attending with a gun violence victim.

“A young man named Sami Rahamim, who lost his father in a tragic event in Minneapolis, is going to be joining me,” Ellison said on ABC’s “This Week.” “And Jim Langevin [Democrat of Rhode Island] and I and Rosa DeLauro [Democrat of Connecticut] have asked our colleagues. We’ve got about 30 members who are inviting victims of gun violence to be in the gallery. And we’re really looking forward to — to them being with us, because they — they’re witnesses to the need for sane, sensible reform in the area of gun violence prevention.”

Nancy Pelosi also announced on Friday that she plans to bring a fourth grade student from Newtown as her guest. The student, who did not attend Sandy Hook Elementary School, sent a letter to Pelosi explaining how she had been affected by gun violence.

“What everyone in Newtown wants, is for you to ban semi automatic weapons and large capacity magazines and to make everyone use gun safes. This is important so that a person cannot shoot many people at once, and/or injure people badly,” the girl wrote. “This ban will help prevent individuals, families and communities from suffering the way we are in Newtown.”
