LIST: The 13 Most Controversial Grammy Award Moments

The Oscars is a star-studded night, but it is the speeches of those honored with the golden statue that makes the night most memorable. It is the unscripted portion of the show – the awkward stares, unexpected jokes, and heartfelt thank yous that are always the talk of the town, along with the red carpet fashion.

Nominees for this year’s Oscars include Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook,  Denzel Washington for Flight, Sally Field for Lincoln, and Quvenzhane Wallis for Beast of the Southern Wild. Wallis is the youngest actress to ever be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. You go girl!

Check out a few of the most memorable Oscar speeches – ever – to get you geared up for this weekend’s show!

1. Joe Pesciwon an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the movie Goodfellas in 1991. Pesci kept his speech short, to the point, and oddly emotionless. He took the time limit a little too seriously.

2. After winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the movie Jerry Maguire, Cuban Gooding Jr. was full of thank yous and didn’t care for the Oscar’s time restraints. You can’t silence this man!

3. Sally Field won an Oscar for Best Actress in the movie Places in the Heart with the biggest smile and the kindest heart. Thanking all of her loved ones and professional influences, Field couldn’t help but express her joy that she’s liked.

4. Thankful for life and being able to reproduce, Natalie Portman‘s speech for winning Best Actress in the movie Black Swan was nothing short of a good laugh.

5. Adrian Brody won Best Actor for his performance in The Pianist and he celebrated by boldly planting his lips on the beautiful Halle Berry.

6. Fighting for equality and winning Oscars at the same damn time. Marlon Brando won an Oscar for best actor for his performance in The Godfather, but decided not to show up and send a Native American instead. Her creepy stare caught the audience’s attention, although she did not read his lengthy statement nor were any thank yous said.

7. Denzel Washington won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Training Day. Within his speech, Washington showed admiration for fellow actor Sidney Poitier and was happy to have accomplished a childhood dream.

8. James Cameron thanked as many people as he could when he won an Oscar for directing Titanic. He saved the end of the speech to thank his parents and to let everyone know he was “the king of the world.”

9. Spreading that sibling love, Angelina Jolie immediately let everyone know just how weirdly close her and her brother were after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Girl Interrupted

10. Ben Affleck and his best friend Matt Damon took a page out of the Cuban Gooding Jr. book on speeches and thanked all of those who came to mind after winning the Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting. Started in Boston, now [they] here!

Good luck to all of the nominees!
