When DJ/producer Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” record went viral on the ‘net, culture critics began to critique the polarizing new dance craze.
Many people were surprised when Harlem rapper Jim Jones released his freestyle over Baauer’s track, but unbeknownst to the fans, the “Harlem Shake” was originally Jimmy’s record to begin with.
During an interview with Jenny Boom Boom, Jim revealed the details behind Baauer’s “Harlem Shake,” stating:
“Well, actually “Harlem Shake” was mine for a year, I had that record a year ago, it was supposed to be for Pauly D’s album and we never did nothing with it, so when I started to hear this “Harlem Shake” and I heard the beat, I’m like, “Damn, I had that beat already for a year,” so I just put the record out.”
