This is nothing new: there’ve been rumors of the Apple iWatch for some time now.

Once someone made a wristband to case the iPod nano, it was only a matter of time before Apple began to capitalize on the craze. Initially they ran with the innovation by carrying the wrist attachment in their Apple stores worldwide, but now the tech giant may be making an actual watch for consumers to integrate Apple into their daily routine on yet another level.

More recently, the rumors began to surface again when Apple revealed they had patented several technologies that could be used in a watch.

U.S. patent application no. 20130044215, filed by Apple in August 2011, specifies the technology for a ‘wearable accessory device’ with a ‘flexible display.’ With this new information at hand, UK’s MacWorld designed some conceptual renderings of how the iWatch might look.

The wristband-type device described in the patent application would attach to users’ wrists using the same kind of mechanism as a slap wrap toy made popular in the ’80s and ’90s. The iWatch-like device described in the ‘44215 patent app would be ‘configured to display information wirelessly transmitted from a portable electronic device,’ most likely an iPhone.

Additionally there will be a ‘solar panel array spread across a surface of the accessory device,’ or ‘a kinetic power source similar to those found on some wristwatches.’ This sort of power generation could lengthen the amount of time between charging.

In all actuality, we won’t know exactly how the iWatch will work. Stay tuned and check out some of the watch’s conceptual renderings in the gallery above!
