You may think you’re pretty good behind the camera. You may even think you should be paid for your talent as a photographer, but unless you’ve been recognized as a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards, you probably don’t know jack.

Well, maybe we shouldn’t overlook your talent, but there’s no doubting that the finalists for the 2013 Sony World Photography awards are great behind the lens. From a photo of a man running in frigid temperatures while wearing a grizzly bear, to a group of laughing children on a van, each photo captures something amazing about either the human spirit, mother nature, or a combination of both.

The ‘Sony World Photography Awards’ annually give away credits for chosen single shot images, on the basis of only one picture and not a whole series. Ten winning photographers will compete for the Sony World Photography Awards Open Photographer of the Year title, which will be revealed at a gala ceremony on April 25th. This photographer will also receive $5,000. Not too shabby!

You can take a look at the work from a few of the finalists in the gallery above or on the Photography Awards website.
