Not that we needed one, but we have two excuses to ogle over the beauty that is Ryan Gosling this week, and that of course means they come with both good news, and bad news.

The good: We get some serious screen time with Gosling in his new film The Place Beyond the Pines where he plays a badass motorcycle stunt rider who turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and their newborn child…and we get to see him shirtless…and tattooed.

The bad: Ryan has decided he is going to take a little break from being in front of the camera, and take a hiatus from acting, which pretty much means he is breaking up with America, leaving us no choice but to find another actor to lust after longingly.

In a joint venture of celebration and mourning (a strange place that we cope with by staring longingly at Ryan’s photos) we have decided to round up 5 of Ryan Gosling’s most memorable movie looks.

Crazy Stupid Love

Sure, we want to talk about that one scene where he takes off his shirt and Emma Stone says what every woman in America is thinking: “You look like you’re photoshopped!” But believe it or not, Jacob Palmer didn’t steal the screen when he stripped out of his button down shirt. The perfectly tailored suits and face-complimenting shades that made the man were the real stars in Crazy Stupid Love, and set the style standard pretty darn high for any man who wanted to compete with Gosling.

The Place Beyond the Pines

We’ll say it, Luke isn’t exactly the type of guy we’d enjoy our daughters meeting at a circus and falling in love with, but at the core at it all, Ryan’s Place Beyond the Pines character had a good, albeit misguided heart, but what wasn’t as pure was his wardrobe of ripped, stained shirts and jeans. The saving factor? His moto jacket, and those infamous green sunglasses. Instant cool guy.

Drive

We love seeing the ad guy side of Gosling, especially when he does it in a satin bomber jacket and a v-neck. While he wasn’t much of talker, and more of a driver, the toothpick and leather gloves are the accessories we’ll never quite look at the same.

The Gangster Squad

Suits are always a good thing. Suits on Ryan Gosling are a better thing. The Gangster Squad took place in the 1920s, so just imagine Crazy Stupid Love Ryan with the addition of a button on his blazer, and of course the top hat he wore like only he could.

Blue Valentine

We’ll save the saddest for last. While The Notebook’s Noah didn’t have much style beyond the type that a man who lives alone in the woods for year would, one thing we can say is that he aged quite gracefully. On the contrary, we have Gosling in Blue Valentine, who gave a glimpse of how things could go very wrong with aging. The most epic wardrobe piece: that red and black leather jacket.

There you have it, 5 looks of Ryan’s on screen goodness and a bonus shirtless pic for good measure. Now, bookmark this for a time when his breakup with you becomes too much to bear and you want to remember the good times.
