The love story between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes looked like the perfect fairytale, but sadly, it turned tragic after five years of marriage [which technically is like an eternity in Hollywood.]
The couple, who have a 16 year age difference, split up last June after Katie filed for divorce. The low key, very normal Katie has been pretty open about her feelings on the relationship, but we haven’t been able to say the same about Tom, who’s practically been in hiding since the whole thing went down.
So, now that TomKat has been divorced for almost a year now, it seems like Tom thought the timing was right to finally speak on it.
In a new interview with German outlet ProSieben, the Oblivion star opened up. On Katie’s decision to file for divorce, Tom is quoted saying:
“I did not expect that.”
He also reportedly adds that the breakup gave him
“an incredible amount of time to reflect.”
Holmes ended the couple’s marriage shortly before Tom’s 50th birthday. He continued:
“Life is a challenge. To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you — that’s what life is… Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor.”
