Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman star in 42, the story of Jackson Robinson

The legendary actor known for his roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones takes on the role of Branch Rickey, the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers who decides it’s time to integrate Major League Baseball.

EXCLUSIVE: Chadwick Boseman Says 42 Is A Love Story

So after searching for numerous players in the then-segregated Negro Leagues, Branch decides on Jackie Robinson, played by Chadwick. This is when Branch explains that no matter what they do to Jackie, he cannot fight back.

“People aren’t going to like this, they are going to do anything to get you to react. Echo a curse with a curse and they’ll hear only yours. Follow a blow with a blow and they’ll say the ‘Negro lost his temper.’ Your enemy will be out in force and you cannot met him on his own low ground.”

Harrison nails the line, saying:

“We win if the world is convinced of two things. That you are a fine gentleman and a great baseball player.”

While there are a lot of ‘we shall overcome’ moments in the film, there are also some very tough ones, moments like the Philly game where the manager just calls Jackie all types of racist names, so bad that I literally got angry while watching.

But the secret of 42 is that it’s a love story. The film really highlights the way Jackie loves his wife Rachel Robinson. It’s a beautiful thing.

42 is the movie we’ve been asking Hollywood to make for a long time now, so do yourself a favor and go see it.
