Chris Broussard, you’re on the wrong side of history, man.
Today, after Washington Wizards center Jason Collins publicly announced he was gay in a Sports Illustrated op-ed, everyone had an opinion. Most were supportive and positive. But then, in came the ESPN analyst.
In a one-hour Outside The Lines show to discuss the historic announcement, Broussard had some choice words that weren’t so nice.
Personally, I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly, like premarital sex between heterosexuals. If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that, you know, that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, whatever it maybe, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the bible would characterize them as a Christian.
Excuse me? What happened to “only God can judge me?”
But what’s curious about Broussard’s comments is that he expressed that the NBA was ready for a gay player in an essay he previously wrote. So why the change of heart now?
In any case, his comment was mad rude and he could have kept his homophobic opinions to himself.
We’re proud of Jason and hope he paves the way for a gay-friendly future in sports.
