On Tuesday afternoon, a 2-year-old girl in Kentucky was accidentally shot and killed by her own 5-year-old brother.

The incident took place around 1:00 p.m., when the 5-year-old was playing with a .22 caliber rifle that he received as a gift.

“It’s a Crickett,” said Cumberland County Coroner Gary White. “It’s a little rifle for a kid.”

Authorities are stating that the children’s mother was home at the time.

It has also been discovered that the boy already has experience shooting the rifle. The family usually keeps it in the corner, but they did not realize that a shell was left inside.

“The little boy is used to shooting the little gun,” White said. “Just one of those crazy accidents.”

The shooting will be ruled accidental, but we have to wonder why a 5-year-old is receiving a gun as a gift – what happened to action figures?!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
