Do you know what’s the most unsurprising thing about this whole Amanda Berry case?

That it happened in Ohio.

In case you haven’t been paying attention over the last couple of years, a lot of WTF occurs in that state, man.

Like, really, even more so than other quirky states, like Mississippi, New Jersey and Florida.

In fact, if you just look back at the last two years or so, you’ll find numerous examples.

Here are some of the craziest stories.

The Zanesville Massacre

On October 18, 2011, Terry Thompson committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Although tragic, that’s not what makes the story strange. Moments before he shot himself, the depressed Terry, who owned an exotic farm, freed 56 wild animals, including lions, tiger, wolves and cheetahs…no bears, though. Unfortunately authorities were forced to kill 49 of 56 of the animals. If you want to know more about the nitty gritty: take some time to read GQ’s and Esquire’s stories on the whole saga.

The Steubenville, Ohio Rape Case

Steubenville, Ohio, was once a town that was pretty much unknown. Now that town will live in infamy — all for something terrible. On August 11, 2012, Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond, two 16-year-old football players at the small town’s high school, raped an unconscious 16-year-old girl who was drunk. Both teens were tried and convicted for their actions. The case gained traction as the trial went along, and it created a very public debate on what rape is.

Woman Finds Out She Was Married To Her Father

Ohio, it doesn’t get more WTF than this. Late last year, Valerie Spruill, who is from Doylestown, Ohio, made the news cycle when it came out that her husband Percy, who had died six years earlier, was also her estranged father. How does this happen? According to the HuffingtonPost

“Spruill was sent to live with her grandparents when she was just 3 months old. She was told that her grandfather was her father and that her mother was a “family friend.” Her biological mother was a “night lady” who was jailed on sex charges in 1980. Her biological father was Percy Spruill, who was 15 when he met Valerie’s mother.”

Excuse us while we scream.

The Uppercut

You know how Charles Ramsey, the man who rescued Amanda Berry, has been trending on Twitter over the last couple of days? Well, back in October, uppercut was trending on Twitter for days. Why? Because of the video you see above: of a Cleveland bus driver doing a Mortal Kombat move on a rowdy passenger

Violence Over Jay & Bey

OK, trivia time: who’s married to Beyonce? Easy: Jay-Z. Everyone should know that, right? Well everyone didn’t and a man suffered the consequences. Last year, Cleveland resident Ronald Deaver stabbed the dude he was with because he didn’t know that Beyonce and Jay-Z were married. Jeez.
