In what might be one of the craziest stories of 2013, three Cleveland women have been rescued after being kidnapped by Ariel Castro, where they were beaten, sexually abused, and forced to live in fear for more than a decade.
The video seen above, from a cellphone has just surfaced showing the shocking moment when Amanda Berry was rescued and we now have a first look at Amanda after being rescued with the help of Charles Ramsey. She’s seen clutch onto her daughter tightly:
In more news of the kidnapping victims, the mother of Michelle Knight has still not had contact with her daughter and is now taking legal action, the witnesses who recorded the video have spoken and the brother of kidnapper, Ariel Castro’s brothers are speaking after being released from police custody.
Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus and Michelle Knight were all kidnapped on the same street, however, in 2003, 2004, and 2002 respectively. On Monday, Berry attempted to make an escape with her 6-year-old daughter through the front door of her prison. That’s when bystander-turned-hero Charles Ramsey heard her cries, called the police, and helped her through the screen door.
While Ramsey has subsequently shot to internet stardom due to his charismatic personality, punchlines and, of course, heroism, the facts trickling down from the investigation are proving to be much more gripping…and gruesome.
Here are the latest updates in the bizarre case.
Video Footage Released Of Police Rescuing Cleveland Kidnap Victims
Fox 8 has obtained the footage of the moment the police were able to get access into Ariel Castro’s house on 2207 Seymour Avenue and rescue the girls.
A woman named Jasmina Baldrich shot the footage on her mobile phone, which showed 6 officers attempting to break into the house, with two more running to the property later.
The woman told Fox of the video:
“Maybe it was meant for us to see, because everybody doesn’t get to see somebody get saved, especially after ten years.”
The video was shot after Amanda Berry had already escaped from the house as Charles Ramsey helped her get through the door.
Baldrich said of Amanda:
“Amanda was talking to a cop and I saw tears fall from her face and it just broke my heart.”
Michelle Knight’s Mother’s Lawyer Goes On The Attack To Find A Missing Michelle
Michelle Knight has already been reportedly released from the MetroHealth hospital in Cleveland after escaping from her kidnapping, and no one is aware of her location.
Her own mother still hasn’t been able to see her, and is fighting back to get the whereabouts of her daughter.
According to ABC News, her mother’s lawyer, Jay Milano, is fighting back to try to find Michelle.
The lawyer told the network:
“She went to the hospital and tried to deliver flowers to her daughter and was told that her daughter’s not keeping visitors.”
Milano claims that the hospital “stonewalled” him about the location of Michelle when he tried calling the hospital:
“I talked to the lawyer for the hospital who told me, ‘I don’t know if she’s here. I’ll get back to you, Jay.’”
When talking about what it was like for Barbara, Michelle’s mother, she explained to the press:
“It was hell for her, too.”
Ariel Castro’s Brothers Speak On The Kidnapping Of The Three Girls
Although Ariel Castro is currently facing a possible death penalty, his two brothers Pedro and Onil have just been released from police custody.
The two have proved that they had nothing to do with the kidnapping of Amanda, Gina, and Michelle over the years, and now have to hide at an undisclosed location because of their brother’s actions.
They recently sat down with CNN to talk about the kidnapping case, where they revealed their worry that people will believe they were involved in the case.
Onil said of the situation:
“And the people out there that know me, they know that Onil Castro is not that person and has nothing to do with that. Would never even think of something like that. I was a very liked person, individual. I’ve never had any enemies. No reason for anybody to think that I would ever do something like that. It’s a shock to all my friends. They couldn’t believe it.”
Pedro put in his take of it all as well:
“I was a very liked person, individual. I’ve never had any enemies. No reason for anybody to think that I would ever do something like that. It’s a shock to all my friends. They couldn’t believe it.”
