The hottest album in the world has J Cole’s name on it, but the hottest single that you haven’t heard is Big Sean’s new “Beware” record. It’s a little different on the first listen. Producers KeY Wane and Mike Dean definitely have a new sound that’s fresh. Anytime you have a Lil Wayne feature, you are already 2 steps close to a hit record. Add in Jhene Aiko’s silky soft vocals, and Big Sean has another hit record in the making.

With all the ratchet recklessness that comes from Chicago hip hop these days, it’s almost easy to forget the wordsmiths and dope MC’s that are mixed in that crowd too. Peep this new artist Vic Mensa, who actually isn’t so new, but you still probably missed him. His latest track “Hollywood LA” is a great way to get familiar with one of Chi Town’s next up.

Janelle Monet is a music genius. This new song of hers, “Dance Apocalyptic” has all the elements of smash written in it. It’s an incredibly positive song that is about nothing but dancing. Don’t be surprised to hear this record in a zillion commercials, and on just about every news morning show in the world. It really does have that feel. Ms. Monet and her patented style on and off the mic, continue to push the creative envelope in music.

This new “Chosen One” record borders on, nagging with the autotune affect heard through the entire song. Still though, the heavy trap style beat guarantees this record plenty of rotation in the club, radio, and beyond.

R&B music has come a long way. It used to have the elements of struggle, love, or just happiness in general. Nowadays, it has the same edgy elements as hip hop music and soft porn. See Trey Songz. Alas, along comes a new Melanie Fiona record to save the day. Introducing “Cold Piece,” something a little different but still fresh from Mel.
