A new video has surfaced that shows another perspective of the incident where a dog was shot to death while his master was being arrested for “interference with police.”

This video went viral last week, and caused major outrage from people all over the world. The dog’s owner Leon Rosby was getting handcuffed, causing his Rottweiler to jump out of the car and lunge at one of the officers, who in turn shot the dog dead.

The Hawthorne, California police department received major criticism, including death threats, leading the department to take the officers involved in the incident off street duty.

But now a new video of the incident has surfaced, one that the department feels may help clear their name:

“This video will help us tremendously regarding [Rosby’s] actions prior to his arrest,” Lt. Scott Swain of the Hawthorne Police told The Huffington Post. “You can see the officer gives out his hand to let the dog sniff it and tries to grab the leash.”

However, not everyone is ready to give the cop involved any slack.

“It would seem, in hindsight, that the officers could have simply let Mr. Rosby go temporarily, to contain his animal,” Robert Helfend, a defense attorney in LA. “They then could have permitted Mr. Rosby to phone someone to pick up the dog. The so-called crime that Mr. Rosby supposedly committed was not life-threatening nor was he a danger to the community.”

What do you think? After watching this new video, was the cop justified in shooting the dog?
