This year, MTV is doing bigger and better things when it comes to the annual Video Music Awards. The network decided to take it to a new location: the Barclays Center in Brooklyn; the home of Biggie and Jay.

This will be the first time in history Brooklyn will host such a major award show…and that’s not the only thing that will be changing. Everyone knows the real star of the VMAs is that shiny little moonman the lucky winners take home. Well, MTV decided to redesign Mr. Moonman for the first time in thirty whole years.

MTV reached out to Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly, aka KAWS, to design this limited edition bad boy. You might have seen KAWS’ work with artists such as Kanye for the 808’s & Heartbreak special edition cover, Pharrell (who is quite fond of his work), Clipse for Complex, and his reimaginings for famous cartoons like The Simpsons, Smurfs, Spongebob and even clothing lines such as BAPE, Marc Jacobs and the list goes on.

KAWS ended his brand OriginalFake clothing back in May, but the artist is still working harder then ever.

Make sure you watch out for Moonman’s makeover August 25th at MTV’s VMA’s. Check out KAWS talking about the redesign below.
