Summer, summer, summertime! Who honestly doesn’t love summer?

While some of us may be out of school or just working during the week, there isn’t a weekend that goes by without a proper shindig to glam up for. We don’t know about you, but with all these barbecues, weddings and parties, there are far too many times where we simply don’t know what to wear, and sometimes hitting the mall for a whole outfit is just too way too time consuming.

Although many of us think we don’t have anything to wear in our closets, the truth is, it starts in your makeup bag. All you need is a lipstick to take your outfit in any direction you want. Mark our words, lipsticks will be your lifesaver this summer!

Just like with fashion trends, what works for some people might not work for others and when it comes to lipsticks, that’s rule number one. There are definite essentials that everyone must have in their lipstick collection, including reds, pinks, nudes and corals. We’re gonna break it down into the different skin tones to help you find your perfect color.

NUDES:

Nude colors work best for very pale skin, something that is sandy, beige or just a pale pink. Nude lipsticks are the epitome of a sexy summer look and there is a perfect shade for everyone. The point of nude lipstick isn’t to make your lips look naked necessarily, but to give you a natural glowy lip look. Nars Turkish Delight is a great peachy pink for pale skin that will give your lips that color you need – without being too overbearing.

For fair skin tones, MAC’s Crème d’Nude is also a beautiful color option.

And another nude friendly for darker skin tones is, yes guys, MAC’s Honey LoveI absolutely adore this color and with a little lip liner, you will have some lethal lips.

PINKS:

With pinks you can either go for a Barbie bright pink or a magenta bold pink, the options are endless. But because it’s summer, bold statement lips are a better option!

For the dark skin tone, Covergirl Queen Lipstick in Powderpuff Pink is just perfect; it glides on beautifully and the lipstick alone will make a statement.

NYX Shocking Pink is a matte lipstick great for fair skin with its blue undertones. Although it is matte, it doesn’t apply dry, because that’s the last thing we need in the summer.

When you have pale skin, you don’t want a pink that will wash you out or a pink that will overpower your lips. A lipstick like Maybelline Fuchsia Fever will give you the oomph, but not in a terrifying way. A great tip is to first press the bright color into your lips with your finger so that you can build up the intensity.

REDS:

As for your red lips, those will never go out of style! A red lip can take you to classy and bold in seconds. It’s great for a night out on the town and brings every look together. MAC’s Ruby Woo is a red every woman should own. It’s a classic retro red that will suit anyone and although it’s quite dry (one downfall), it will have your teeth looking pearly white.

And for all you Rihanna lovers, if you can get your hands on RiRi Woo, this lipstick is indeed very similar, but less drying and a little deeper with its blue base.

Coral is a color that just screams summer. It’s subtle, bold, angelic and sexy all in one. Vegas Volt from MAC can work for many skin tones, but it compliments the dark skin tone very well and it’s also moisturizing as a bonus.

OCC lip tar in Trollop is boo-ti-full for fairer skin. The great thing about these lip tars is that a little goes a long away. You can buy them for $12.50 and can mix colors together to create custom lips every time.

Lorac’s Cream Lipstick in Babydoll is a great shade for pale skin and flatters the lip so well. Just gorgeous!

Try and experiment with your color options and make sure your lips are moisturized. Cracked lips are never a cute look. Pucker up girls!
