Some celebrities talk a good game, but Stevie Wonder walks the walk too!
After George Zimmerman was found not guilty on all charges he faced in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, Wonder took matters into his own hands and made a bold statement.
At a concert in Quebec City, Stevie Wonder declared a special message to his audience and people all around the country:
“I decided today that until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” he said on stage. “As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.”
There are at least 22 states in this country that have the law, but with many different variations and restrictions. And Wonder has just made a vow that he will steer clear of these states until they do away with laws that could lead to more deaths in the future.
Wonder also asked for the help of his fans:
“For those that we have lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can’t bring them back,” he said. “What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”
