Eminem may be synonymous with rap, but he’s no stranger to the world of acting either. So it’s no surprise that he was considered for the leading role in the upcoming futuristic sci-fi movie, Elysium.

Even though the leading role of Max DeCosta is now being played by actor Matt Damon, according to Rolling Stone, director Neill Blomkamp came to Em with the role first. But he wanted no part of the film unless it was shot in his hometown of Detroit. Production was ultimately shot in Vancouver, British Columbia and Mexico City.

Regarding his future in Hollywood, Em said:

“There are some things in the [works], a couple of scripts I guess it’s more so of just waiting now to see how they come together…Obviously it’s gotta be something that I feel is dope enough to make me want to say, ‘OK, let me put the mic down for a second and go do this movie.’ There are some things that are in the works. I guess we’ll just see how they come together.”

South African rapper Ninja  of the group Die Antwoord  was also up for the role, but he declined as well.

Elysium hits theatres August 9th.
