It’s only been one day since Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed the most restrictive abortion measure in the nation into law, and now Texas lawmakers are overstepping their boundaries once again with a bill that will ban abortions after six weeks. Called the “fetal heartbeat” bill, the measure would criminalize the procedure after a fetal heartbeat could be detected (through an invasive ultrasound procedure, might we add). [ThinkProgress]

A tea party rally in Washington D.C. to rail against an immigration reform bill turned overtly racist when Ken Crow — a co-founder of the Tea Party Community — stepped up to the microphone to give everyone a lesson on breeding and racial purity. To punish an alleged rapist at the University of Colorado Boulder, school officials made the individual pay a $75 fine and…wait for it…write an essay. Now the university is under a federal civil rights investigation spurred by a student’s complaint that the school was slow to punish the rapist and that the sanctions were too light. [HuffPost]
