The fairy tale dream always involves finding a charming prince to whisk you off into magical matrimony, and of course, then comes baby in the baby carriage!

Today the Royal Family embarked on the latter part of their fairytale wedding when Kate Middleton and Prince William emerged for the first time with their royal baby in tow.

The public appearance took place just 24 hours after The Duchess of Cambridge, formally known as Kate Middleton, gave birth to the royal baby. For the occasion, she donned a special garment to pay homage to the late Princess Diana: a knee-length bespoke cornflower blue crêpe de chine dress by British designer Jenny Packham. It’s not the dress that’s special, it’s the pattern that mimics the green and white polka dot frock the late Princess Diana wore while presenting her baby William to the world as she and Prince Charles left the hospital with the newborn in 1982.

Very sweet! Take a look at Diana’s hospital departure in 1982 below, when car seats weren’t a thang!
