Shortly after teasing her new single “Applause,Lady Gaga unveils the single artwork, and boy, is it artsy.

The Pierrot-inspired artwork was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who are also the directors of Gaga’s forthcoming music video.

When asked about the theme and concept of the song, Gaga spilled the beans, stating:

“I’ll tell you that it is very fun. And that it’s full of happiness, because what I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me.”

Gaga’s lead single will be released on August 19.

ARTPOP will hit store shelves on November 11, but in the meantime, fans can catch Gaga performing at this year’s MTV VMAs at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 25.
