I don’t understand the hype about Orange Is The New Black.

There, I said it.

For the last two weeks, everyone has been talking about Netflix’s new show, Orange Is The New Black. People are saying you gotta watch it. Buzzfeed does a different post on it almost every day.

I was excited. I was so amped up about watching the show, that after my weekend plans got canceled, I wasn’t even upset. I thought I’d sit in the house and watch the whole season of OITNB – just like I did House Of Cards, Luther, Breaking Bad, The Killing, Game Of Thrones, Girls, Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

However, I made it through 3 episodes. I couldn’t get into it. I kept thinking “is this why everyone is so hyped?” Who are these people?

The show didn’t captivate me. It’s not as funny as Girls, It’s not as drama filled as Scandal, in fact, it’s not even half way to their level.

When I watched the first episode of another Netflix show, House Of Cards, I couldn’t get enough. I must have watched 6 episodes my first sitting!

Orange didn’t give me that same feeling. There were a few chuckles, a couple of boobs here and there (I enjoyed that), but after 20 minutes, I found myself googling the show to remind me where I’ve seen that one character…

It was That 70’s Show. Where has she been? It’s good to see her again.

Then once I got that out of my system, the first episode of OITNB was over. Now I’ll admit the first show ended with a great cliffhanger that I won’t ruin, but the second episode didn’t leave me wanting more. It started to feel more like a chore. So I did what any young man does when faced with chores: I started watching wrestling!

I started to give up on the show but after a tweeting about it, I still have hope. My Twitter followers really seem to like it, but me, not so much. What I am supposed to be looking for? Why is this show so good to everyone except me?

It’s not a good feeling being the only one who doesn’t get the joke.

Maybe it’s one of those slow starting shows. Breaking Bad took a minute to pick up. So I’m willing to keep watching. Especially when my followers are telling me not to give up.

It’s clear to me that OITNB is not a one weekend type of show, but I’ll give it another try. If not for any other reason than the fact that the woman who voiced Patti Mayonnaise stars on it!
