The residents of Florida can rejoice!

After weeks of intense protests at the State Capitol in Florida, political leaders have finally decided to schedule a hearing to re-examine the “Stand Your Ground” law.

The protests became overwhelming for the government officials after the “not guilty” verdict was read that acquitted George Zimmerman of shooting and killing Trayvon Martin.

According to Reuters, the hearing will be held sometime this fall to look over the law from top to bottom for flaws, which has also been encouraged by President Barack Obama.

Will Weatherford, Florida’s House Of Representative Speakers told the press:

“Across Florida, representatives are receiving calls, letters, visits and emails from constituents with diverse opinions on ‘Stand Your Ground,'” Weatherford said. “Passions are high, but every person has the right to express their views on this matter of great importance.”

Despite all of the harm it has caused in the case of Trayvon Martin, the law is said by advocates to have decreased violent crime since enacted.

Stay tuned for more details on when the hearing will take place.
