The victim who was mowed down by a driver on the Venice Beach boardwalk over the weekend has been identified as 32-year-old Alice Gruppioni.

The Italian woman, who was on her honeymoon when she was struck and killed on Saturday, had only been married two weeks to her husband, Christian Casadei.

“It’s a tragedy. There’s nothing more to say,” Casadei told the Italian news agency ANSA.

“We were walking, we were happy, we were on our honeymoon and everything, and suddenly everything changed. I still can’t believe it, and I don’t even remember exactly what happened. It’s all very confusing.”

The driver of the dark-colored car has been arrested after intentionally driving into the crowds, killing Gruppioni and injuring 11 others.

According to CBS:

Police say 38-year-old Nathan Campbell has been booked for investigation of murder and remains jailed Sunday on $1 million bail. He turned himself in about two hours after the attack that occurred at around 6 p.m. Saturday. Investigators don’t yet have a motive.

Our thoughts are with the Gruppioni and Casadei families, as well as the victims of this horrendous act of violence.
