Thirteen-year-old Logan Anthony Armendariz was fatally shot by his 10-year-old brother when the boys found the keys to a gun safe in their Indiana home and opened it to discover a revolver inside.

Logan’s younger brother believed that the gun was empty and when he pulled the trigger, the bullet hit Logan in the chest. Believe it or not, the gun only had one bullet in it and the bullet just happened to be in the fire chamber.

“Had (the bullet) been in another chamber, it would have dry fired,” said a spokesperson of the hospital Logan was taken to, Saint Vincent’s Anderson Regional Hospital. “The odds are just really unbelievable.”

The two boys were home alone when this incident occurred. Their mother didn’t know that anything was wrong until she called home to see how her sons were doing and her younger son said “Logan needed help.”

Logan was an honor student and loved playing basketball and doing artwork.

The superintendent of the school Logan attended, Paul Garrison stated, “We’re deeply disturbed. I’ve notified faculty that he’s died in a tragic accident, and the staff has expressed concern for the family. He was a fine young man, and he’ll be sorely missed.”

May he rest in peace.
