Comedy, drama, action, romance – The Butler has it all!

Director Lee Daniels takes viewers back to the 1960s, a racially turbulent time in America’s history.  The film follows Cecil Gaines, played by Forest Whitaker, as he serves as a butler to eight United States presidents. During his time as a butler in the White House major historical events like the civil rights movement and the Vietnam war, occur. Because Gaines is a black man, he is affected differently than white people, especially the privileged white people he serves daily.

Gaines’ experiences cause his superiors to view him and black people as a whole differently, changing the course of history.

The film takes us through Cecil’s life, starting from his childhood. Gaines grew up on a plantation as a slave where he bore witness to atrocious behavior by slave owners including the rape of his mother, played by Mariah Carey.

Forest Whitaker and Mariah Carey aren’t the only A-lister’s in The ButlerOprah Winfrey, David Banner, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lenny Kravitz, John Cusack, Robin Williams and Jesse Williams are just a few of the Hollywood heavy hitters that round out this all-star cast.

Trust us, this movie is worth the $12. Don’t believe us? Check out BlogXilla’s review above. Better yet, see the film for yourself! The Butler hits theaters today.
