What a horrible way to start a vacation.

Sian Green, a 23-year-old British fashion student was hit by a taxi in NYC yesterday… and had her foot severed in the process.

Green had just arrived to New York on Monday night and was out with her best friend Keisha Warren, who were both eating hot dogs while standing on the curb.

Then out of no where, an out of control taxi came and struck her. When a nearby plumber, David Justino, saw the injured woman, he sprang into action and used his belt as a tourniquet.

Dr Oz, famously known in the medical and TV world, was also nearby and rushed to offer his help.

“While in a meeting in our offices near Rockefeller Center, I heard an accident occur on the street below,” said the celebrity doctor. “A taxi driver lost control of his cab and collided with a woman, badly injuring her leg. David Justino, a plumber from New York, took action, removing his belt and using it as a tourniquet.”

Oz also added:

“With the help of NYC first responders, who are the best in the world, the woman was treated and rushed to a local hospital. I applaud the quick thinking and heroic actions of David and the first responders,” added Oz. “My prayers are with the victim for a speedy recovery.”

Green’s father, William Donaghue, who’s still in the UK but is planning to come to New York with the rest of Green’s family spoke to her on the phone after the accident. He stated:

“Sian is as upbeat as you can be about this, she is determined to not let this ruin her life.”

He also added:

“She is in recovery now, and they have had to amputate what’s left of her foot,’ he said. Her friend Keshia is still in shock. We are a really close family we are all devastated by what has happened, we don’t know what to say…we just want to be at our daughter’s side right now.”

Our prayers are with Green, her friends and family.
