When Sergeant Sean Murphy released graphic and behind-the-scenes photos of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to Boston Magazine last month, he faced major criticism from the department and was even suspended for a day. Eventually, he was placed on restrictive duty, but Boston Magazine is continuing what Murphy started – showing the real face of terrorism – not the fluffed image of Dzhokhar on the Rolling Stone cover. The family of the street artist Israel Hernande-Llach, who was killed when a Miami police officer shocked him with a Taser, are now suing the City of Miami Beach and its police chief for “unnecessary, excessive and unconstitutional force” in their apprehension of the 18-year-old. [NYT]

A teen living in rural Kyrgyzstan has died after battling the bubonic plague, forcing the region to enforce tighter border control and quarantines. Authorities aren’t exactly sure how Temirbek Isakunov, 15, contracted the disease, but a health official says he might have been bit by a flea. [HuffPost]
