So this is happening. White supremacist Paul Craig Cobb is buying property in a North Dakota town and turning it into a colony for white nationalists. Cobb, who is wanted in Canada on charges of promoting hatred, is using internet ads and message boards to convince other like-minded individuals to move to his white power haven. But his 24 (yes 24) neighbors in the small town aren’t having it – people have offered to buy back his properties. And one of his black neighbors has a message for him…he’s not going anywhere. [NYT]

Guess what? A new study shows that poverty consumes so much mental energy that it affects brainpower. In short, people struggling to make ends meet often have little brainpower left for anything else (other than worrying about money), leaving them more susceptible to bad decisions that “can perpetuate their situation.” [WashingtonPost]

The man who is accused of killing his wife and then posting her dead body on Facebook has pleaded not guilty in Florida. Derek Medina’s charges have been reduced to second-degree murder, but prosecutors will likely seek a first-degree murder indictment when the grand jury returns in September. [HuffPost]
