The annual West Indian Carnival in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn is today.

And you’re thinking about going.

But…you have people in your ear telling you “Don’t you dare.”

“Why?” You say.

Ah, right.

OK, OK so the parade has gotten a terrible rap over the years, due to some violent incidents. Things have gotten so bad that some folks even asked ridiculous questions like this:

Ugh. Come on, let’s be real, this ain’t Shottas we’re talking about here.

It’s a parade! And a lot of the bad press comes from the mainstream media creating a narrative. One of the tricks is to attach the parade to other shootings around the city:

Whatever, man. The parade has had some issues over the years, but being violently injured is the exception, not the rule.

It would also kinda help if the NYPD would be a little more cooperative:

And, those on the beat could just do a better job.

Doh!

Listen, fuck what the media says and give this thing a shot.

Sure, there are going to be a couple of knuckleheads who are going to try and screw this up, but most of the people out there are just showing love, repping for their culture.

Just go, you’ll have a good time. There’s a big chance you’ll get to see what twerkin’ is actually supposed to be.

Not this.

But more like this.

And, if you’re a dude, do we even have to convince you?

Some of the most beautiful women in the city will be out and about.

So we’ll see you out there?

Come on, stop being like that. You don’t even have to be from the Islands to have a good time, everyone is welcome.
