The playfulness of Alisha Trimble’s “Flower Fever, Night Power” theme for her S/S 2014 Ready-To-Wear collection was evident as soon as one stepped through the door of the Flatiron Hotel’s Toshi’s Living Room show space.

Beyonce’s “Naughty Girl” blared through the speakers of the lounge area as we invaded the upstairs space, which was surrounded by hair stylists and makeup artists all working their creative gems on the models. The ’70s theme was embodied heavily in the hair, as models emerged with wavy manes, sported deep side-parts and adorned their heads with bows and floral crowns. As for makeup, it was minimal, with all the girls sporting a naturally fresh face highlighted with a bold red lip.

While poking around backstage, we managed to grab a few preview shots of the looks spied during the show, chat with the models – all quite excited about the high-spirited nature of the show, and meet with Alisha herself, who was busy doing some last minute show prep in between greeting journalists and other guests.

Shortly after making our way to our seats, the models paraded their way to the stage to display the looks in groups of four, each showing off a different element of ’70s disco chic. The pieces eyed in the RTW collection consisted of lots of basic hues of cream, pale pinks and blues and of course, black. Yet each look was unique in its own right, embellished with embroidered flowers, sequins and other individual elements.

Trends spotted: Floral headpieces, haltered bralet tops, shift dresses, pleated skirts, braided accents and lots of vibrant elements reminiscent of summer’s glory.

My rating: The most exciting elements the collection possessed were its wild card pieces, including an embroidered peasant dress featuring drawn out bell sleeves, and multi colored cover-ups that models later slipped off to expose the gorgeous crocheted bikinis hidden underneath.

My favorite look: A playful fringe mini skirt, featuring various gradient shades of nudes, pinks, deep greens and blues, paired with a creme colored bikini top and beaded necklace.
