Miami Heat player Chris Andersen aka Birdman has been cleared of all charges after being investigated for an incident involving an underage girl on the internet.

A year ago the Internet Crimes Against Children task force raided Andersen’s Colorado home looking for evidence to link him to an underage California girl. Andersen allegedly had a relationship both online and in-person with the minor, but that was proven to be false after it was discovered that the entire thing was an elaborate “catfish” hoax.

TMZ reports:

“According to police, Andersen was actually set up by a 29-year-old woman in rural Canada named Shelly Lynn Chartier – who posed as a real girl in California while communicating with Andersen. In turn, Chartier then used Andersen’s image to communicate with the actual girl in California.”

Whoa!

The scheme was so well thought out that the Cali girl flew out to Colorado to meet Andersen. The pair made contact, but nothing came of the relationship.

Following their meet-up, Chartier reportedly threatened Andersen with extortion, claiming that the girl was actually underage. Chartier was arrested in January; Andersen has been cleared of all charges in the case.

A rep for the Miami head star said, “We are not surprised this is the end result. We are happy for Chris and glad this unfortunate incident is behind him.”
